Alumni Grants

If you were a member of a CLP (formerly BPCP) award winning team and want to build upon your skills and knowledge, you may benefit from a CLP (formerly BPCP) Alumni Grant. Grants will be awarded twice a year and will be awarded based on need, both professionally and financially. Eligible alumni may receive one grant of up to US$1,250. The funds can be used to attend conferences, workshops and short-term training courses offered by universities and other institutions that are focusing on biodiversity conservation.

To be eligible for an Alumni Grant, you must fulfill the following:

  • You must have been a team member on a CLP funded project (to be verified by the team leader).
  • Your proposed training or conference must be completed within one year of receiving the funds and cannot be part of an academic degree program.
  • You must not have previously received a CLP Alumni Grant.
  • You must have the approval of your employer to attend the training/conference (if applicable).
Criteria by which we assess applications:
  • The training/conference adds to the applicant's personal development.
  • The training/conference will contribute to conservation in the region where the applicant is working.
  • The participant will be sharing their experiences at the conference (giving a talk or presentation) and learning from others.
  • The training/conference is internationally recognized with associated networking opportunities.
CLP Alumni Grants cover expenses for tuition, housing and food, books and materials, required equipment, travel to and from the training/conference site, local transportation, and health insurance (if required by the training institution). The training/conference may take place anywhere in the world. Only one team member may apply for funding for a given conference or training.

How to apply:
Eligible alumni may download an application form , or you can request the form by email from the programme at clp@birdlife.org. Please return completed applications to the same address.

There are two application deadlines for alumni grants: 1st February 2008 and 1st August 2008. Funds are limited, and requests may not exceed US$1,250. The application process can take up to two months from the time your application is submitted until the date funds are dispersed, so plan accordingly.
