The goal of our Scholarships is to develop individual and institutional leadership capacity for biodiversity conservation in high priority areas as a fundamental contribution to sustainable development. The Scholarships aim to develop advanced individual skills for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in high priority areas, through providing promising young conservation leaders with the formal post-graduate qualifications that they need to progress their careers and; expose young conservationists to current thinking and debate in conservation science.
The scholarships will provide international standard graduate education opportunities to exceptional conservationists who are nationals of: Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey or Venezuela. Individuals are selected based on their potential to become conservation leaders, influencing local or national conservation in their home country.
Offer Each scholarship award will contribute to an MSc course in a natural or social science discipline related to biodiversity conservation at an accredited University outside the awardee's home country. The award of up to $45,000 can cover visas, travel, tuition, living expenses, books, insurance, expenses related to application fees, GRE, TOEFL tests, and English language training.
Additionally, scholarship winners will be awarded two years' membership of the Society for Conservation Biology. Scholars also will become part of the BPCP alumni network and will have access to all alumnus information and services.
Application Process
Two scholarships are available each year and applicants must be nominated by a BP Conservation Programme partner organisation. In 2007, each programme partner can nominate up to two applicants by March. Applications without partner endorsement will not be considered. Applicants are notified of decisions in late March and must start their courses before the end of 2008.
